Genesis Segment 8
All scripture is from the King James Version unless otherwise noted. Before beginning this study, I suggest you pray and ask God to guide you through this study. I also suggest that you do you own study of this material in order to ensure its accuracy.
NOTE:
This study contains several references to The Book of Enoch. While I do not doubt the veracity (or the probable scriptural integrity) of The Book of Enoch, it is not currently considered scripture. It is, however, referenced in scripture in Jude verse 14. I use The Book of Enoch here only to corroborate what the Bible says. I want to go on record when I say that the BIBLE AND ONLY THE BIBLE is our authority on the matters discussed in this study, The Book of Enoch is not. The present form of The Book of Enoch was written circa the second century BC but the original from which the Qumran texts were taken is assumed to be very old, possibly from Enoch, the seventh from Adam, himself. Fragments of it were found at Qumran dating to 200 BC. For more information on The Book of Enoch go to the
Enoch study site.In order to understand this segment, it is necessary that you study Segment 7 before studying this segment.
(Gen 6:9) These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
I repeat what I said in the previous segment: Noah and his family were pure, pedigreed Adamites, the seed line of Christ. They had not mixed with the angels, therefore, God would save them from the flood. For more information about this fact, see Segment 7, where much effort was put into defining it.
Noah walked with God just as Enoch had. In other words, he walked with or was intimate or conversant with God and he practiced the Word of God, which he received from God.
(Gen 6:10) And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
This is a continuation of the thought in the last verse, adding that Noah's sons were also included in the perfect generations (as were his wife and his sons wives - v.18)
(Gen 6:11-12) The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. {12} And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
May I remind you that the word for earth, 'erets, can also mean land, country, ground, nation, political area, etc. (Luke 2.1). Because of the context, and because there were those who survived the flood (e.g. the offspring of Cain, the Kenites - Gen 15.19), and because the other races were not aboard the ark and survived the flood, the word earth here means a locality. I believe that locality to be the Tarim Basin. I believe that the flood was local and not a worldwide flood. This area was the realm of the Adamites.
Luke said: "all the world should be taxed." (Luke 2.1) This did not include Southern Africa, Australia, North America, China, etc. This did not mean that literally the entire world would be taxed. It just meant that all of the Roman world would be taxed. The same idea applies to Noah's flood.
It was this realm of the sons and daughters of Adam that the sons of God entered and married the daughters of men. It was here that giants were produced, and it was here that Satan tried to corrupt the seed line of Christ with the Nephillim.
This realm, or 'erets was corrupted. The word means it was spoiled or decayed and ruined. It was a violent place where maltreatment was normal. Jesus, or Yeshua, mentioned this period in His Olivet Discourse (His teaching about end times on the Mount of Olives). Let's go there for a moment.
(Mat 24:37-39)
But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. {38} For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, {39} And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.The marrying and giving in marriage was to the fallen angels, the "sons of God." This gives reference to the fact that they went on with daily life until they were caught by the flood. It will be the same when Jesus returns. There will be corruption and violence, but the people will keep on with their daily lives as though nothing is wrong. It appears that the sons of God will return and take up where they left off at the flood, but not those same angels of Noah's day. They are in chains until judgment. Remember that in verse 5 that, "the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." It will be this way when Jesus returns.
(Gen 6:13) And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Go back and read verses 4 through 7. Who is "them"? They are the giants in the land from verse 4. They are also the men of verse 5 whose thoughts were only evil continuously. That they were sons of Adam is made known in verse 7, where God said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth;" The Hebrew for man here is 'eth 'ha 'adam, or Adam. God said he would destroy Adam from the face of the land. God was going to destroy the Adamites and the animals and every living thing in the realm or land of Adam except Noah and his family. All except Noah were corrupted.
Noah was 500 years old when he begat his sons. His sons had wives. Noah's father (Lamech) died when Noah was 595. Methuselah died five years after Lamech. Noah was six hundred when the flood started. The flood started directly after the death of Methuselah, who was the last uncorrupted Adamite to die before the flood. The sons of God corrupted all other flesh, except Noah. The seed of angels was not intended to be mixed with the seed of men. The giants had to die because they were hybrids and not men. Men would not have survived had the hybrids been allowed to remain.
(Gen 6:14-16) Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. {15} And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. {16} A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
The ark was made of gopher, which was probably cypress. It was covered with pitch, or bitumen, a resin which, according to Strong's Concordance, is made from the henna plant. The word for pitch is kopher, the word used for the Atonement Cover of the Ark of the Covenant. Our word, cover, comes from the Hebrew kopher (pronounced "ko'-fer"). Using sacred cubits (about 25 inches), the ark was 625 feet long, 104 feet wide, and 62 feet tall. That is a volume of 4,030,000 cubic feet. There were three interior decks, each approximately 20 feet tall, and each having an area of 65000 square feet, and a volume of 1,300,000 cubic feet. The total deck space for inhabitation was 195,000 square feet. That is the same area as six and one half football fields laying side by side or 100 moderate sized houses. There was plenty of space for the crew, cargo, and rations. The window was constructed in a two-foot extension above the top, or fourth, deck. That would make it an observation window similar to that in a caboose. The word for window means a "dual, double light." You could see 360º through such a window. It would be a pair of double windows looking out in all four directions.
(Gen 6:17) And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
"I, even I, is an oath taken upon Himself. It would happen. There is another flood recorded in God's Word. It is recorded in Genesis 1:1, Jer. 4.23-29, and 2 Pet. 3.5-7. Go back and read Genesis Segment One to review the flood that caused the earth to become without form and void.
(Gen 6:18) But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.
The Hebrew word translated establish is quwm, Strong's 6965. It means to accomplish. God will accomplish His covenant by putting Noah and his family and the animals into the ark. God Himself sealed the ark (Gen 7:16). In more modern terms, God executed the contract with Noah.
(Gen 6:19-20) And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. {20} Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
I do not believe in a worldwide flood. I have read The Genesis Flood, by Henry M. Morris and John C. Whitcomb. It is well written and the authors present their case for a worldwide flood well. But I don't feel that the Bible supports a worldwide flood for reasons I have already explained. You may review my reasons by re-reading Segment Seven. I believe that the flood took place in the locality of the Adamites, so these animals mentioned were from that area only.
BUT, for those of you who insist on a worldwide flood, I offer an alternative. The word translated "flesh" in verse 19 is chay, Strong's 2416. It literally means life or living thing. Men are alive and they are living things, so the races could have boarded the ark with Noah. According to Johann Friedrich Blumenbach, a German anatomist, physiologist, and naturalist of the nineteenth century, mankind can be divided into five races: Caucasian, Mongolian, Ethiopian, American, and Malay. If he is correct, then the ark could easily accommodate five pairs of people who represented all the races of the world. Even if he were off 100%, that would only increase the passenger load to ten pairs. So the races could easily fit on the ark.
(Gen 6:21-22) And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. {22} Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
Remember the size of the ark. It had over four million cubic feet of space. There was plenty of room for provisions. Noah complied.
(Gen 7:1) And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
God found Noah to be the only righteous man of his era. In this verse, generation should have been translated "age".
(Gen 7:2-3) Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. {3} Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.
After the flood, clean beasts were able to be eaten, and were used as sacrifices. How did Noah even know of clean and unclean beasts since Moses wrote the law some 2000 years later? Remember Enoch? He walked with God. So did Noah. God passed information on to Noah's ancestors like Adam and Enoch. Since Noah also walked with God, God imparted information to him, too. Notice that all the birds were gathered in sevens.
(Gen 7:4) For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
In verse 3, 'erets (Strong's 776), is translated earth. But in this verse the word translated earth is 'adamah (Strong's 127) which means earth, but in the since of soil; it means ground. Let's translate it like this: " and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the ground."
Here, God gives Noah one week's warning. In seven days God would make it rain for forty days and forty nights. Forty is a Biblical number that signifies testing (or trial) or probation, or even chastisement. Here it is a period of trial for Noah and the internees on the ark. But it is divine punishment on those whom the flood destroyed. (It is interesting to note that Noah waited seven days after dove returned with the olive leaf to alight).
(Gen 7:5) And Noah did according unto all that the L
ORD commanded him.Noah had faith. How do we receive salvation? Faith. About Abraham, the Bible says, "And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness (Gen 15:6)". Abraham was saved by his faith (Rom 4.1-3). If Abraham was justified by his faith, then, doesn't it follow that Noah was justified by his?
(Gen 7:6-9) And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth. {7} And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood. {8} Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, {9} There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
The word 'erets (Strong's 776) is used in verse 6, and 'adamah (Strong's 127) is used in verse 8, where it would have been better-translated ground.
(Gen 7:11-12) In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. {12} And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
The "great deep" in Hebrew is:
8415. tehowm, teh-home'; or tehom, teh-home'; (usually fem.); an abyss (as a surging mass of water), espec. the deep (the main sea or the subterranean water-supply):--deep (place), depth.
We know from Gen 1.6, that there were waters above and beneath the firmament, but this supply of water is subterranean or beneath the ground. Gen 2.6 mentions that the mists came up out of the ground (from the subterranean water supply) to water the plants. Here, in addition to the rain, the subterranean waters erupted onto the surface, helping to flood the land.
(Gen 7:13-15) In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark; {14} They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort. {15} And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life. {16} And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
Eight souls (1 Pet 3.20) and at least two of every animal of the 'erets, or the domain of the Adamites entered. Peter said that the water saved them. He likened it to baptism:
(1 Pet 3:18-21) For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: {19} By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; {20} Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. {21} The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Jesus went and preached to "the spirits in prison." Who were they?
(2 Pet 2:4) For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
(Jude 1:6) And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Angels are called spirits:
(Psa 104:4) Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
(Heb 1:7) And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
[quoting the previous](Heb 1:14) Are they
[angels] not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?Jesus went and preached to those angels imprisoned in chains in outer darkness. The word translated "preached" is kerusso, which means to cry or herald or proclaim a subject without referencing the theme or content of the subject and without teaching the subject. The reason I go to this length is to let you understand that Jesus DID NOT preach the gospel to these spirits, He merely proclaimed to them His victory.
The Book of Enoch says that the fallen angels will not have the opportunity to be forgiven and will be judged to death at the judgment (Enoch 10:12-14, read chapters 10-15 for a more thorough examination of this subject). Remember that the Book of Enoch is not inspired and only the Bible is our authority. The Book of Enoch is just used to corroborate what we read in the Bible.
If He had preached the gospel to them, Peter would have used the word euaggelizo, which means to announce a joyful message, and the Gospel is a joyful message:
2784. kerusso, kay-roos'-so; of uncert. affin.; to herald (as a public crier), espec. divine truth (the gospel):--preach (-er), proclaim, publish.
2097. euaggelizo, yoo-ang-ghel-id'-zo ); from 2095 and 32; to announce good news ("evangelize") espec. the gospel:--declare, bring (declare, show) glad (good) tidings, preach (the gospel)
The Gospel was also preached to those who died before the Advent:
(1 Pet 4:6) For for this cause was the gospel preached [
euaggelizo] also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. They were given the opportunity to repent and believe on Jesus, an opportunity which, in my opinion, few, if any rejected. There probably were a few hard heads. Let's repeat Genesis 7.16:
(Gen 7:16) And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
After they entered the ark, Yehovah shut them in. They were under his divine protection, and nothing could hurt them.
(Gen 7:20) Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.
There are two cubits, the profane and the sacred. The profane cubit is about 18 inches, and the sacred cubit is 25 inches. So fifteen cubits give us a range of 22.5 to 31.25 feet. Was the water only 22 feet deep? No, we are told that the water covered all the hills or mountains. The water was fifteen cubits over the top of the highest site in the land ('erets). The "earth", that is, the land of the Adamites was (in my opinion) the Tarim Basin, an area surrounded on all sides by mountain ranges, producing a giant bowl, in which a huge lake could have been formed that covered all the hills or mountains within that "world".
The Tarim basin is located in extreme western China in the Xinjiang province (a part of Turkistan). The basin is formed by to surrounding mountain ranges, the Tien Shan on the north, and the Kunlun on the south. The basin forms the he Takla Makan desert and the Tarim Pond. The desert is part of the basin, and was covered with water during the flood. The basin covers an area of 215,000 square miles (about 700 X 300 miles). Covered with water, it would make a sea the size of the Black Sea. On that sea, you could not see and land in a circle of 360º, unless you were within 15 miles of shore.
The Encyclopedia Brittanica says:
North of the Plateau of Tibet and at the much lower level of about 3,000 feet lies the Tarim Basin. It is hemmed in by great mountain ranges: the Tien Shan ("Celestial Mountains") on the north, the Pamirs on the west, and the Kunlun Mountains on the south. From these heights glacier-fed streams descend, only to lose themselves in the loose sands and gravels of the Takla Makan Desert, which occupies the centre of the basin. The Takla Makan is one of the most barren of the world's deserts; only a few of the largest rivers, such as the Tarim and Ho-t'ien (Khotan), cross the desert, but even their flow is not constant, and they have water throughout their entire courses only during the flood period. The area of the basin is about 215,000 square miles, and its elevations are from 2,500 to 4,600 feet above sea level. Its surface slants to the southeast, where the Lop Nor (a salt-encrusted lake bed) is situated.
There is ample evidence, both biblical and non-biblical, to support a local flood. Please see my work on the Genesis Flood.
(Gen 7:21-23) And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: {22} All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. {23} And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
Every air-breathing animal and all humans perished from the world or domain of the Adamites. By deduction, we know that the fish remained and so did plant life that was able to survive flooding conditions. Of course, most plant species would have survived in seed form.
(Gen 7:24) And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.
The number, one hundred and fifty, is only used elsewhere in the Bible to signify silver or men. In Solomon's day the price of a horse was 150 shekels of silver. A Hebrew shekel was about 10 drams avoirdupois or .625 ounce. 150 shekels weighed 93.75 ounces or 5.86 pounds. Find out what an avoirdupois ounce of silver costs and you can figure out the price of a horse in Solomon's time.
Twice in the Bible 150 is used for the price of a horse in shekels of silver during Solomon's reign. Look in 1 Kin 10.29 and 2 Chr 1.17. The number is used to signify a complement of fighting men in 1 Chr 8.40. Here it is a complement of archers who were men of valor. Nehemiah speaks of 150 Jews and rulers who sat at his table (Neh 5.17). They were in addition to his servants. They all helped build the wall around Jerusalem.
My opinion, based on the Bible accounts of 150, is that the number signifies adequacy. 150 shekels of silver were adequate to purchase a horse in Solomon's time. 150 archers of valor were adequate as Benjamin's addition to the fighting men of Israel. And 150 Jews and rulers was an adequate number of freemen to help Nehemiah.
One hundred and fifty days of flood conditions were adequate to destroy all air breathing life in the world of the Adamites.
(Gen 8:1) And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;
God did not forget Noah. The word translated "remembered" (zakar, Strong's 2142) can also mean "to be mindful of." God set his mind to ending the flood. An adequate number of days of flood had passed, and it was time for God to end the flood. He set his mind to it.
Wind is ruach (Strong's 7307), which is the same word used of the Holy Spirit (the ruach 'ha qodesh). It is possible to translate the phrase "and God made the Spirit to pass over the earth . . ." Either one will work here.
(Gen 8:2-3) The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; {3} And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.
I thought the rains only lasted forty days and nights. Here it says the windows of heaven were stopped after 150 days. It is obvious from the phrase "and the rain . . . was restrained," that the widows of heaven refer to rain. The word translated window is 'arubbah (Strong's 699) which refers to an opening through which an abundance flows. One of its meanings is a sluice gate or a floodgate. An abundance of water flowed through the floodgates of heaven. It rained continually for forty days and nights. The flood reached its crest in forty days and nights. Then the waters prevailed for 150 days; the flood was sustained. I would postulate that it still rained off and on during the entire 150 days to maintain the water level. After that time, God shut off the water.
(Gen 8:3) And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.
The floodwaters crested in forty days and prevailed for 150 days. Now, after 150 days the waters had only lessened. They came up much faster that they went down.
(Gen 8:4) And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.
I would guess that a ship the size of a small aircraft carrier (625 feet long--almost two football fields) would draw a few feet of water. The ark rested on a mountaintop before the mountains could be seen. Its keel, still below the water line, ran aground.
Ararat, or Urartu, is the name for a mountain in Turkistan. It is also the name of a kingdom that extended from eastern Turkey to the Caucasus Mountains and into present day Iran. Ararat is a Semitic word meaning "highest peak." Present day Ararat is a system of two volcanic peaks in Armenia.
I believe that it is a mistake to place the site of Noah's landing in Armenia. The kingdom of Urartu takes its name from the high peaks of the Himalayas, but is not necessarily indicative of the place of Noah's landing. There are some very high peaks in the Tian Shan range; the highest are near Pamir. The plateau of the Pamirs, known as "the rooftop of the world," is one of the highest places in the world, topping 13,000 feet. I believe the Ararat (highest peak) that Noah landed on was here in the Pamirs.
(Gen 8:5-6) And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen. {6} And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:
Noah was closed up in the ark for ten months. After that, he finally opened the window and looked out. He saw the tips of the mountains sticking up out of a sea.
(Gen 8:7) And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.
In other words, the raven did not return. The raven is an unclean bird (Lev 11.15), so Noah had only a pair of them. This would have signaled the extinction of ravens if the flood had been worldwide. But, because there were other ravens on earth, the species still thrives.
(Gen 8:8-9) Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; {9} But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
Doves are very much homing animals. When she couldn't find land (other than the tips of the mountains), she returned home.
(Gen 8:10-11) And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; {11} And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. {12} And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.
After another sabbath, Noah sent the dove out again. So where did the olive leaf come from? It was plucked, which, in the manuscript means fresh-picked, so it had to come from a growing olive tree. If only the tips of the mountains were above the water seven days before this, then the dove must have flown out of the "earth" of Noah to fetch it. No olive tree could grow and put out leaves in seven days. The germination period for a seed would preclude there being a small seedling in the flood area. She must have flown outside the Tarim Basin to pluck it. Nevertheless, it was a sign for Noah.
(Gen 8:13-14) And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry. {14} And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.
It was one year and ten days exactly from the beginning of the flood until the ground was dried.
(Gen 8:15-19) And God spake unto Noah, saying, {16} Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons' wives with thee. {17} Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. {18} And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him: {19} Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.
They had arrived at the end of the ordeal. Now it was up to Noah and his cargo to replenish the area of the flood.
(Gen 8:20) And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
The first thing Noah did after his ordeal, was to worship the LORD.
(Gen 8:21-22) And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. {22} While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
God makes His covenant with Noah, whom He would later give a sign--the rainbow (Gen 9.13). Note what God says about the heart of mankind. It is evil from youth. If you don't believe that, let a child have his own way often enough and you will see evil things being done by the child. And if you don't believe a child can do evil, then you have your head in the sand.
Until the time of the end, the earth will not change its seasons. The days will remain the same, the orbit will not vary, and the earth's wobble will continue. Before the flood, there is no mention of seasons. Perhaps the havoc produced on the earth's crust during the flood caused the earth to move off its axis bringing on the advent of seasons. I believe that when the earth is renewed, it will right on its axis stopping the seasons. See 2 Pet 3.10 - 12, Rev 21.1 & 5, and Rev 22.
