Genesis Segment 6
Genesis 3:20 - 4:26
All scripture is from the King James Version unless otherwise noted. Before beginning this study, I suggest you pray and ask God to guide you through this study. I also suggest that you do you own study of this material in order to ensure its accuracy.
(Gen 3:20) And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
The word translated Eve, chawa, means life giver. This Verse says she was the mother of all alive (living). But, implied in the definitions, she was the life giver of Adam's flesh and blood progeny, not of every human being of every race. The word, Adam, means able to show blood in the face or blush, or of ruddy complexion, the adamic race. One race cannot give birth to other races. Besides, all of the races were created on the sixth day; they were not born of Eve on a later day.
The fact that the Bible says that Eve was the mother of all living does not alter this last fact. The word Eve simply means life-giver. Figuratively, being the mother of the seed of Christ, she is the mother of all living, because those who do not have Christ, frankly are dead (this stretches it a bit, but I leave it here). But, since her name means life-giver, the term "mother of all living" may simply refer to that. She was the life giver who bore Adam's children. The word for living is chay meaning life or flesh. She may have been the mother of all of Adam's living progeny. So, the phrase is more readily translated "mother of all the flesh that should live after her," that is, her own offspring, and not all of mankind. Dr. E.W. Bullinger says that the word translated "all" is better rendered "all who should live after her," meaning her offspring. See The Companion Bible note on Genesis 3:20 below:
The Companion Bible note on Genesis 3:20:
20 Eve = Heb. Chavvah = Life, Life-spring. Showing that he believed God. The name "Eve" occ. 4 times : here ; 4.1 ; 2 Cor. 11.3 ; and 1 Tim 2.13.
all = all who should live after her. Fig. Synecdoche (of Genus), Ap. 6
(Gen 3:21) Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
You must realize that in order to provide the animal skin clothing, blood had to be spilled. This was the first blood sacrifice. Here, animals were slain in order to clothe Adam and Eve. This was done to atone for the shame of their nakedness. The word translated "coats" actually means "garments."
(Gen 3:22) And the LORD God said, "Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:--"
Who is "Us"? The answer to that question lies in the first phrase: "And the LORD God said". The words, Lord God are Yehovah Elohim. Yehovah, or Yahaveh is the covenant name of God: I AM. Elohim is the plural of Eloah, which means God. The word, elohim, usually means gods, but it is also used for The One True or Supreme God, or the Godhead. Why is it plural? Because God manifests Himself in three ways: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Therefore, Elohim, used here in conjunction with Yehovah means I AM THE SUPREME GOD, which is the Trinity. God, the Father speaks to the other two offices of the Supreme God or Godhead. He tells Himself (Them) that Adam now knows good and evil and could partake of the Tree of Life, Jesus. The ending of the verse, ":--" indicates sudden silence emphasizing that the result of Adam taking of the Tree of Life is unspeakable! The Man must be prevented from doing that at all costs.
Some teach that elohim also refers to all of the Heavenly host. That is simply not so. The angels are not gods (Hebrews 1). While elohim can refer to gods (lower case "g") as in false gods, when used in the context of the One True God (Yehovah), it always means the Godhead. For an example of false gods, see Genesis 31:30-32. But, even though elohim does not mean angels, the Heavenly Hosts were also there and able to hear God's words.
(Gen 3:23) Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
Adam was taken from the adamah, or ground, and now, instead of eating the fruit in the Garden, he must till that very ground from which he was formed. This fulfilled the Word of the LORD in verses 17-19.
(Gen 3:24) So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
It is evident that the entrance to the Garden was in one particular place, toward the east. Accessing it from another direction was impossible or God would have had the whole perimeter of Eden guarded. But He only placed a guard at the east side. What kind of geographical feature would lend itself to this scenario? High ground, of course. What kind of high ground? A plateau would be plausible.
It is more than just a coincident that the Persians, the Chinese, and the people of India each have their own creation and flood stories. Let me digress here, and make a statement. All of the religions of the world, and all of the creation myths of the world are but corruptions of The One True Creation And Religion. Religion is a poor word, so let's call it God-Worship. Many teach that polytheism (many gods) was the first religion of the world, and that, down through the ages, polytheism progressed into monotheism (one God). They would have you believe that God is a figment of the human imagination who descended from many gods who were also figments of the human imagination. They wish for the world to believe them, therefore believing that there is no God. Where do you think that line of thought originates? (in Lucifer's Lair!).
It is the same line of thought responsible for the THEORY (not fact) of Evolution. That theory states that out of chaos came what you see today: an orderly solar system and universe, and the present state of development of the flora and fauna of the world. Those who propose this theory of the progession of many gods into one God are telling us that out of many gods, that is, chaos, came one God (order). This violates the second law of Thermodynamics, which states that order cannot come from disorder (entropy), but that disorder follows order. There is no way for disorder to produce order. It is a physical law of the universe.
The truth is actually the opposite of that proposal. God, Yehovah Elohim, created the universe and the earth and all that is in it in a orderly fashion. He taught Adam the true religion, that is Yehovah Elohim worship. Adam and all his sons right down through Noah knew this. But mortal man corrupted it, bringing it into disorder.
In all the world's religions runs a thread of truth. That thread of truth was once the only Truth (God) but it was corrupted by men into this polytheistic, pagan world we have today. The creation and flood stories of the Persians, Chinese, and Indians, have a central truth: that one God created all, and then destroyed the creation by a flood. Those stories are corruptions that are based on the real truth. The real truth is exactly as it is written in the Bible. How do we know the Bible is truth and the Q'ran, the Desiderata, the Vedas, the Book of Mormon, and other religious writings are not truth? The fulfilled prophecies of the Bible have come true exactly as the Bible says they did. Another proof is the archaeological evidences that prove the Bible. For example, scholars once said Ur of the Chaldees was a myth. Low and behold, archaeology proved its existence just as the Bible says. There are many more convincing proofs, but that is another study for another time.
Now, back to the subject. The Persian, Chinese, and Indian traditions say that Eden was located on the Pamir Plateau in Central Turkestan. That plateau has four rivers running from it, and its easiest access is from the east. That plateau could be the site of the Garden of Eden. Today, it is a cold, high, uninhabitable place, but its features do fit the Biblical description of Eden. (See Frederick Haberman's Tracing Our Ancestors). East of Eden, if it was on the Pamir Plateau, is toward the Tarim Basin, where the same mythologies say the flood occurred. The Tarim Basin is a marshy swampland today. It is interesting to note that in the news earlier this year (1997), I read an article in the paper saying that Caucasian remains were found buried in the region of the Tarim Basin. How did they get there, in the middle of China? I believe they are remains of the Adamites who lived there.
Let me quickly point out here that I am not an Identity Movement teacher, nor am I a white supremacist. Both of those movements are corruptions of God's plans and Biblical truths. Satan likes to keep the pot stirred. The Caucasian race is only a part of the Adamic race. By the way, the Jews are of the Adamic race, too. Many of the Lost Tribes of Israel went through the Caucasian Mountains on their trek westward, gaining there the title Caucasian. That leaves out many Adamites and Israelites who went elsewhere. For more information go to the Lost Tribes site. I like what Jack Flaws (Lost Tribes site owner) says at this site:
"Satan enters in to ALL God's Truth to turn us aside. Some fearful ones have succumbed to the Tempter and taken this information to it's worst possible end; White Supremacy. They become The Elite Chosen People of God. Rubbish! ! ! Beware. The Lost Tribes teaching is supposed to end in glorifying GOD, not man."
(Gen 4:1) And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
Cain is quayin in the Hebrew. His descendants are the quayinites or Kenites of the Bible. Remember the Kenites. Quayin means a lance or a spear. From its root, qana, and from the context, it means to acquire or to get. Notice that Eve knew where Cain came from. Babies are gifts from God. Only God could make a baby in its mother's womb. She knew Cain came from God, even though she had had a union with her husband (some say the union was with the Serpent).
(Gen 4:2) And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
The word "again" is not a good translation. The Hebrew is yacaph, which means "to add or augment, to continue." The verse should read: "And she continued to bear his brother Abel. Simply stated, Abel and Cain were twins. There is Biblical precedent for twins to be born into the Hebrew line. Jacob and Esau, and Pharez and Zarah, were twins. Jacob and Esau were born to Isaac and Rebecca, and Pharez and Zarah were born to Judah and Tamar.
(Gen 4:3-4) And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. {4} And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
The sacrifice they brought before the LORD was a minchah. Strong's definition is:
4503. minchah, min-khaw'; from an unused root mean. to apportion, i.e. bestow; a donation; euphem. tribute; spec. a sacrificial offering (usually bloodless and voluntary):--gift, oblation, (meat) offering, present, sacrifice.
This offering was usually a bloodless sacrifice. God's acceptance of Abel's offering had nothing to do with blood sacrifice. This gift offering or meat (that is, meal) offering (as it is called in the Law) was not a blood sacrifice. Notice that God makes a point of telling us that Abel brought the first-fruit of his increase. Cain simply brought of the fruit of his increase. I believe that the reason why God had no respect for Cain's offering is that Cain just brought some of his increase instead of the first-fruit. Cain's offering was not sincere, but a casual and careless offering. God does not want our casual or second best offerings, he wants our first and best. He gave us His first and best offering, Jesus Christ, and that is what he expects from us. Yes, God's sacrifice applies to Adam and his descendants. It was retroactive. See 1 Peter 3:18-20.
(Gen 4:5-6) But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. {6} And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
Cain became angry and the look on his face fell when God accepted Abel's offering but rejected his offering. By asking the question God asked, we know that Cain was fully aware of what an acceptable offering was. Since Cain knew his offering was only second best, he should not have been wroth when it was not accepted. The implication of the question was why was Cain wroth when he already knew his offering was unacceptable. He had no reason to believe God would accept the offering. It looks like the green monster bit Cain. He was jealous of Abel. Watch out! Jealousy is the worst of emotions. Bad things can happen because of jealousy. The Devil had Cain's full attention here. He stuck in the knife of jealousy and twisted it.
(Gen 4:7a) If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted?
If Cain had done what he knew to be right, his offering would have been accepted.
{7b} and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
On the surface, this verse means that if you allow it, sin will rule over you, causing you to sin. Here is the most literal way of translating the verse: "If you do well, exaltation. And if not you do well, at the door sin is crouching [or lurking]; and toward you its desire [is]. But you should rule over it." (From Green's Interlinear Bible. J.P. Green's translation uses the Textus Receptus (Received Text) and the Masoretic Text, which are the same texts as used in the KJV. He gives two translations: a literal translation and his own translation). You can get Greens Interlinear on-line at Sovereign Grace Publishers.
There is a deeper meaning, which is brought out in the Companion Bible. The phrase, "sin lieth at the door" can be broken down thus: The Hebrew word here translated sin is chatt'ah. It means "an offence (sometimes habitual sinfulness), and its penalty, occasion, sacrifice, or expiation; also (concr.) an offender" -- Strong's Hebrew and Chaldee Dictionary. In fact, it is translated "sin offering" in other places, e.g. Ex 30:10, Lev 4:3, 6:25, 8:2, and Ps 40:6. Sin is feminine and lieth is masculine. This would render the verse: "at the door, a [male] sin offering is lying." This prophesies the murder of Abel.
(Gen 4:8) And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
What Cain said to Abel was: "Let us go into the field." We know this because these words are recorded in several ancient translations: the Samaritan Pentateuch, the Septuaging (LXX), the Syriac, the Vulgate, the Targum and other manuscripts. So Cain enticed Abel into the field and unexpectedly attacked Abel and killed him.
(Gen 4:9) And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
God knew what had happened. As usual, in the interest of justice, God allowed Cain a chance to repent. God usually gives us a chance to repent, but not always, so it is best to repent as soon as you sin. Many long sermons have been built around the words "am I my brother's keeper?" I do not intend to get long winded. This just shows that Cain was unrepentant and uncaring about his brother. He was shirking any responsibility. That is just what happened in the Garden with his parents. Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the Serpent. Cain is saying, "It's not my fault", which is a common malady among mankind.
(Gen 4:10) And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
This is another source of many a long sermon. The word for blood is dahm and here it is the plural, dahmy. Hence, it not only denotes Abel's blood, but also his "bloods" or his posterity. Abel was cut off and so were any of his would be offspring. Blood symbolizes life, and Abel's life, now ended, cried out to God for vengeance.
(Gen 4:11-12) And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; {12} When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
Adam's punishment for his sin was that the ground would yield food, but only with difficulty. Adam would have to work very hard to get a yield from the ground. Cain (qen), and his posterity (qeny--Kenites) would never be able to be farmers or husbandmen, because the ground would yield nothing for them. That is why the Kenites became scribes. They are also known as the Rechabites. See 1 Chr 2:55.
Note the Nethinim, the children of Sophereth (temple servants or scribes), who came back to Jerusalem from Babylon in Nehemiah 7:60. The first temple servants or Nethinim were the captured Midianites, who were divided as spoils among the children of Israel. Moses gave 320 of them to the Levites as Nethinim. (Num 31:47) They were of the land of Canaan and were not Jews. The Nethinim returned to Judeah from Bayblon with those who claimed to be Jews but were not, for they could not prove they were Jews. (Neh 7:62) Where have you heard this before? Jesus speaks of the Synagogue of Satan who claimed to be Jews but were not. See my work entitled "The Synagogue of Satan".
(Gen 4:13-14) And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. {14} Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
Here the word earth is adamah, which should have been translated "land" or "country." The phrase would then read, "thou hast driven me out this day from the face of this land." That clarifies this passage. Cain was driven out of the land of his father, the land east of Eden, probably the Tarim Basin in China. Cain adds that he would be hid from God's face. God never said Cain would be hid from God's face. Cain simply assumed this was so. The phrase "a fugitive and a vagabond" literally nearly means he would wander up and down in the earth or world (Hebrew 'erets). Compare this with what Satan said in Job 1:7; that he had been walking up and down in the earth.
The next question is, who was Cain afraid of? Many would have you believe that he was afraid of his own brothers and sisters. This cannot be. Adam was 130 years old when Seth was born. Abel and Cain had no children, so Cain would have had no brothers or sisters or children or nieces or nephews. It is plain that Seth was not born until after Abel's death and Cain's banishment, so the argument that he feared Adam and Eve's children or that he married one of them does not hold water. Many try to make a case for this, but they must stretch scripture a long way to make it fit. So where did these people come from? They were the other races created on the sixth day. Cain was afraid that he would be killed by one of them.
(Gen 4:15-16) And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. {16} And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
The decree that no one would harm Cain must have been made known to the entire world, or Cain's mark would have meant nothing to them. It is not possible to know what the actual mark was. It is plain, though, that the mark was readily identifiable, both from the context and the definition of the word. Mark is 'owth in Hebrew. It means a signal (lit. or fig.), as a flag, beacon, monument, omen, prodigy, evidence, etc. Nod means vagrancy or wandering. It was further east of Eden than the land of Adam.
(Gen 4:17-18) And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch. {18} And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
This the beginning of Cain's generations, which are a part of the "Generations of the Heavens and of the Earth," of Genesis 2:4. Cain's generations are completely separate from the generations of Adam and of Noah. Cain became a part of the rest of the Earth, and not a part of the Adamic race. These children of Cain are Kenites. Here are Strong's definitions:
7014. Qayin, kah'-yin; the same as 7013 (with a play upon the affinity to 7069); Kajin, the name of the first child, also of a place in Pal., and of an Oriental tribe:--Cain, Kenite (-s).
7017. Qeyniy, kay-nee'; or Qiyniy (1Chron. 2:55), kee-nee'; patron. from 7014; a Kenite or member of the tribe of Kajin:--Kenite.
Notice the similarities between Cain's generations and Adam's:
Enoch (initiated) - Enos (mortal)
Irad (fugitive) - Jared (descent)
Mehujael (smitten of God) - Mahalaleel (praise of God)
Methusael (a man who is of God)- Methuselah (man of the javelin or branch or man of meditation)
and Lamech (powerful)
Cain was of the Devil (1 John 3:12) and the Devil is the great imposter who wants to be God (Isa 14:13). This is an example of Satan trying to emulate the line of Messiah. Eventually Satan will come looking like a lamb but speaking like a dragon. He will come in the place of (anti) Christ. The line of Cain was Satan's second attempt to corrupt the line of Christ. There are many other attempts by Satan to corrupt the line of Christ, but that is another study.
(Gen 4:19-22) And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. {20} And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle. {21} And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. {22} And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.
The other Lamech only had one recorded son: Noah. These sons of Lamech survived the flood, for the Kenites are mentioned eleven times in the Bible after the flood. They were either of another Cain after the flood, or they made it through the flood. Read more about this in Noah's Flood.
(Gen 4:23-24) And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt. {24} If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
Lamech claims to have killed a man and a boy because of a bruise he received (hurt = bruise). Lamech is mocking God with his bragging. God had told the world that he would avenge Cain sevenfold, if anyone were to hurt Cain. Lamech's braggadocio caused him to multiply that ten times. In other words, he thought he was ten times better than Cain was. This ends the Generations of the Heavens and the Earth.
(Gen 4:25) And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
I believe that God placed this information here to let us know that it was not until now, after Cain had established his lineage, that Seth was born because his birth is again recorded in the next chapter. This further proves that Cain married a woman of another race. Abel was dead, and Cain banished, so Seth was the firstborn of Adam and Eve.
(Gen 4:26) And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.
Again, Enos means mortal, hence frail, weakly, or sickly. The translation here is lacking. The word translated "began" is actually chalal which means "to profane." The phrase actually reads, "then men called profanely on the name of the LORD." This was when the corruption of True Yehovah-Worship began.
The verse implies, as does the name, that Enos (or Enosh, the sons of men) actually started this profaning of the name of Yehovah. The margin of the Authorized Version says they began to call themselves by the name of Yehovah. Many ancient Israelite commentaries show that men began to call their gods, or idols, by the name of Yehovah. The majority of ancient commentators suggest that they began to call the stars and idols their gods and began to worship them (instead of Yehovah). This would bolster the evidence that all religion started with monotheism, the worship of the One True God, which was corrupted into polytheism.
In Cain's lineage we have one, Lamech, who profaned God, and in the line of Adam we have one, Enos, who profaned God. So both the Adamites and the other races had their champions of idolatry. This would explain why all races have idolatry among them. Yes, there is idolatry even in the Christian churches. In my experience there is quite a bit of idolatry in the churches. I have seen those in every church I have been in who make an idol out of the building and grounds, or out of the pastor, or out of the denomination, or out of any number of things, including being seen in church by others. Since many churches do not teach the Word of God (even though most say they do) there are many Christians who are stuck in a works theology. More and more though, expository preaching is on the rise.
Many, for instance, consider it a sin (or at least not good) if one does not show up at the church every time the doors are opened, and that can be many, many times a week. They judge you on it. Trying to be saved by the works you do in and for the church is putting those works in the place of God, and that is idolatry. The rules and regulations many churches place upon their members are in the same category: they are works. I dare say that Jesus Christ himself would not be looked upon well by many churches. Note that I did not say that one should not do works, but those works should be done because we are God's children, not in order that we can become children of God.
